Pro Bull Riding

By Tierney White

Originating in the 16th century in Old Mexico, the bull riding tradition has transcended the centuries, and its popularity is still prevalent throughout the world today.

Each year, many cowboys and cowgirls flock to the rodeo to test their strength and endurance whilst atop a bucking bull. If you thought the mechanical bulls at the pub were hard enough, imagine doing it for real. We think it’s best to take a seat and watch the pros do it!

Establishing itself as an annual event back in 2011, the Darwin Pro Bull Riding Competition is the final qualifying event before the Sydney Pro Bull Riding National Finals in July. Forty of the most accomplished bull riders in Australia will try their luck in the Top End, competing for a chance to qualify for the lucrative July Cup Series, as well as earning valuable street cred in World Ranking points for the international tour.

Giddy up folks! Grab the gang and head to the rodeo - It’s buck for one night only.
