A Kuninjku elder from west Arnhem Land, Mawurndjul’s paintings feature the sacred sites (djang) of his country through astonishing rarrk linework to luminous effect and figurative representations of key ancestral figures, such as Ngalyod the rainbow serpent in its many and varied manifestations.
