Lola's Pergola

If sipping on an icy cold beer or a cool glass of Savvy B, enjoying great food, and riding a carousel by the waters of Cullen Bay Marina is your jam, then you can’t go past Lola’s Pergola – Darwin’s new circus-themed gastropub.

By Tierney White

Affectionately referred to as Lola’s by the locals, Lola’s Pergola is owned and run by Kitty Kat and her hubby Mulga. And despite only opening its doors at the beginning of June, it has already won our hearts!

Kitty Kat, who named the restaurant after their two-year-old daughter, knew packing up their family of eight and relocating to Darwin from Alice Springs would be a wise move. “We absolutely love Darwin – it’s an amazing city of opportunity and there's just so much to do”, said the owner. The warm and lively couple also own Monte’s Lounge in Alice Springs, which is named after their eight-year-old son.

The family friendly venue is attracting all kinds of praise. According to one customer, who was visiting with her husband and child at the time, the carousel provides an infinite source of entertainment for kids. “I just love that we can bring our daughter here and have a guilt free beer, knowing she’s having a great time too – it’s brilliant”, she said.

Lola’s Pergola is open seven days a week, offering a comprehensive menu from Wednesday to Sunday, but pairing things back early in the week. Monday is fish and chip night and Tuesday offers a parmi special, allowing the head chef a well deserved break. There is also a function room for hire and regular entertainment. Or, you can simply walk in and let the sights and sounds guide you – and boy, do they have great sounds.

You can’t help but feel welcome at this gorgeous “spontaneous, fun and funky” little waterside treasure. Grab your friends, family, even the kids, and take it trapezey at Lola’s!
