2019 Darwin Comedy Cup

Darwin’s Comedy Cup is for grabs yet again as seven local comedians battle it out on stage for a chance to win. MC Scott McGowan says he’s stoked the Cup has returned for its 11th year since its creation in 2008. 

“At the time, there wasn’t really much comedy going on for local comedians but a lot of ‘upper’ comedy – I’d be lucky to get one to two gigs a year. I thought the comedy scene could do with this kind of event and we all know Darwin loves a good laugh,” he said. 

“The Cup’s really inclusive, for any budding comic to get up on stage and give it a go. Tricky Tristan won two years ago and is a bit of a rapper, so it’s for all styles of comedy, not just basic comedy.” 

Anyone can perform and the Cup is awarded based on audience reactions, with three mystery judges in the crowd. Who will take out the gong in 2019? Head along to find out – there are also some schmicko door prizes up for grabs.
