Jirlpiparaku (a few old men) - Martumili Artists

Yunkurra Billy Atkins, Wokka Taylor and Mukki Taylor were born and raised at Kulyakartu and Kuljali in the East Pilbara region of WA. It is an area that incorporates Kumpupintil (Lake Disappointment) and Percival Lakes, and is of immense cultural importance. Last year, during the height of the pandemic, they revisited their country and painted a series of works invigorating their cultural connection. These proud men are its protectors, caretakers and custodians, and this is their story.
