Festival Park – the official Festival hub – opens with a traditional Welcome to Country, acknowledging the ancestral spirits, Traditional Custodians and Elders of the Larrakia, or Saltwater, people upon whose land the Festival takes place. Traditional smoking ceremonies have been performed on this land since the dawn of time, and are always an important start to Festival time on Larrakia country.
