Territory Day – signature events

There’s no avoiding the artillery of crackers – and howling of canines – but Territory Day also brings the liveliest Mindil Beach Sunset Market of the year.

Singer-songwriter Pete Murray headlines this year’s Territory Day concert in Darwin, with Ella Hooper-led rock band Killing Heidi, Resin Moon and young NT musician Isaac Smiley.

The market begins at 3pm, enough time to order a laksa, drink a fruit shake, enjoy the live show and settle into a warm place on the sand for sunset – a fiery spectacle that crackers can only dream of.

In Katherine, a community performance of Katherine Tales – Tall, Twisted and True will tell the origin story of Territory Day through music, comedy and satire.

Meanwhile, Tennant Creek hosts Desert Duals, where 15 musicians from across the Barkly Region collaborate on stage and Declan Kelly guest stars.

These Territory Day signature events include official firework displays.

Sat 1 Jul | Mindil Beach Darwin, 3pm | Katherine Showgrounds, 5.30pm | Purkiss Reserve Tennant Creek, 5pm | territoryday.nt.gov.au
