Reboot Your Loot

Top Enders love a good garage sale.

In the two years since Palmerston joined the official nation-wide Garage Sale Trail, registrations have increased, more trash has been turned into treasure and 95 per cent of people involved told the council they’d do it again. Now it’s on over two days!

If op-shopping and second-hand sprees are your jam, this trail is a must.

First, go to the Garage Sale Trail website to locate all the garages taking part.

Next, plan your trail and make sure you stop off at the Palmerston Recreation Centre on Saturday, where locals will be selling pre-loved books, DVDs, CDs, toys and games.

For sellers, it’s a fun and social way to de-clutter and social way to find a home for pre-loved items, meet people in your own backyard and make some pocket money. The average seller makes $273 – not bad.

The national event is an initiative to help people live more sustainably, and decrease illegal dumping.

“Over the last two years 80 per cent of local participants report that, as a result of taking part in the Garage Sale Trail, they’re more conscious about waste and their role in reducing it,” says the event’s Official Manager, Mark Blackburn.

Don’t forget your spare change and some shopping bags. Recycled, please!
