Christmas Market and Showcase

Meet the makers from Top End communities turning out high quality arts and crafts.

Visit the lawns of historic Lyon’s Cottage in the city and check out the handcrafted products for sale by artists from Daly River, Belyuen, Amangal in Adelaide River and Holtz.

This is a day for people to proudly showcase products they’ve made as participants in Community Development Programs (CDP) throughout the year, including mahogany furniture, homewares, textiles, jewellery,  clothing and artworks.

Run by the Ironbark Aboriginal Corporation, these programs are all about up skilling those out of work and encouraging micro enterprise and creative industries.

Liz Martin, Aboriginal Bush Traders Gallery Coordinator, says market goers have the chance to buy gifts that are creating a difference in the lives of those that make them.

“I think it’s really important that everyone see first-hand the positive effect these programs are having in our communities and the CDP Christmas Market is a great way to
share this,” she says.

“They can meet the makers, engage, ask questions about stories and processes.”

The feel good, festive vibe and chance for interesting chats will continue with a free barbeque on the lawns. You’ll want to bring cash for all your purchases, and maybe a spare set of hands to carry them all to the car!
