Clean Living in the Tropics – February

Love, discover, share.

By Lina Paselli.

Clean Living is being mindful of what you put in your body, mindful of keeping a healthy home and work environment, and mindful of your environmental footprint.

I’ve been a Territorian for over a decade now and have fallen in love with the tropics – all its charms, environment, multiculturalism and outdoor lifestyle; and even its idiosyncrasies – the Build Up, the heat, the wildlife – to me, it’s heavenly.

Over the last 10 years, I have slowly let go of ‘European addictions’ like fashion labels, high-heeled boots, leather bags, wearing make-up all the time, spaghetti – and even wine. I swapped them – happily and deliberately – for Indigenous print dresses, plastic sandals, hessian bags and DIY facial serums using essential oils, zoodles and kombucha!

When I was a Territory newbie, I wished I had a guide – something or someone to help me adapt to this lifestyle. So, for newbies of today (and locals) I’ve compiled the Essential Guide to Clean Living in the Tropics, providing connections to over 100 Territory businesses taking a cleaner approach to beauty, health and well-being, clothing and accessories, destinations, eating out, family and kids, farmers, food and drink, home and lifestyle.

I’m constantly discovering people who share my passion for clean, natural living. And I am constantly surprised by, and thankful for, the generosity of those who share their knowledge with me.

At Clean Living in the Tropics we publish our community’s insights, including ever-popular recipes for food, as well as recipes for essentials like removing mould!

Unfortunately, mould spores like to thrive in humid, damp conditions too. For a natural cleaning solution combine five drops of clove oil, one-quarter cup of white vinegar and one litre of water. Pour into a spray bottle – preferably aluminium or glass – shake well and spray. Wipe clean with water and vinegar – done!
