Nightcliff Seabreeze Festival

Nightcliff Seabreeze Festival weaves community, creativity and country together over one amazing weekend.

By Anna Dowd

From small, volunteer-run beginnings 15 years ago, Seabreeze now supports more than 1000 Territory artists, dancers and musicians in the biggest community festival on the calendar.

Community liaison officer Bryn Wackett says the festival showcases community as well as the beauty of this iconic stretch of coast, and this year a new project Threading the Foreshore will build on that.

“The section of foreshore used is 2km long, and although it’s very beautiful in its own right, there are still plenty of sites along this strip that deserve to be highlighted,” Wackett says.

“So the thought was to weave the stages and spaces together with works by local visual artists that respond to the environment and their community.”

Seven Darwin artists have been invited on-board as Seabreeze ‘creatives in residence’ to do just that, each working with a variety of mediums and community groups to bring their installations to life.
