Pride Party Time

GET OUT AND ABOUT, and loud and proud for the annual Darwin Pride Festival.

The party kicks off with the Darwin Pride Awards. The special fundraising night will see the public nominate and vote for outstanding community members who have gone above and beyond for the Rainbow community.

Darwin Pride Committee Chair Jenny Smith says the awards are an opportunity to give some love to the unsung heroes, toiling away to make a positive impact.

“The awards are a chance to recognise the people in our community and our allies that put in a lot of time and effort without a lot of reward. We’ve got doctors running transgender clinics and women who run a free LGBTQIA+ library on the weekend. They’re the silent achievers out there working away at their own thing, and that all adds up to a larger thing, which is what I like to refer to as our pride,” she says.

“It’ll be held in the spirit of Pride – serious awards done in a fun way.”

A special One World One Love Pride Party will also be held at Throb to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising in New York, which saw a series of demonstra-tions by the LGBTQIA+ community against police, leading to the gay liberation movement. Comedian Steven Oliver will also play host to a cabaret night.

There are celebrations for the whole family with Rainbow Day with entertainment, arts and craft workshops, exhibitions and forums.
And that’s just the beginning… Clear your diary and get ready to party at Pride!
