Ruby G's Canteen

Darwin Bowls and Social Club Manager David Garnham writes about Ruby G’s Canteen – the exciting new food offering at the Bowlo.

When hospitality power couple Mel Pritchard and Shane Ortis applied to take over the kitchen at the Darwin Bowlo, it was a no-brainer. With extensive experience managing venues down south and having worked for industry forerunners in the Top End, we knew they were the right choice.

Ruby G’s Canteen is aptly named in honour of Mel’s grandmother, with whom she shared a great passion for food. And lucky for us, Top Enders will now get to share it too!

Their menu strays from your typical pub or club grub, presenting dishes best described as subtle and fresh. Be it the peach, roast almond and snow pea salad, the báhn mi that overflows with the juicy green stuff on Suckling Pig Sundays, or the house-made pickles or kimchi mayo, Ruby G’s is quickly becoming a hit.

Even the most hardened of club members have been feasting in unknown food territory – enjoying melon and mint in a salad or ordering chips as a side (yes, a side!) – and many of them now know what a pepita is.

Expect to see the brand of Ruby G’s Canteen expand over the coming months – why not book in for an arvo of bare-foot bowls on the green and make a
day of it?

Every Wed – Sat, 6-9pm | Suckling Pig Sundays, 4-8pm | Darwin Bowls and Social Club
