Variety of Chefs

Foodies can indulge in a real-life cooking show experience up close – all in the name of charity.

The annual Varity of Chefs Gala Dinner has three top chefs on stage to share some of the secrets behind their dishes.

Home-grown chefs Jimmy Shu and Steve Sunk will be joined by celebrity chef Matt Golinski to present a three-course meal at Skycity.

Variety NT general manager Katrina Fong Lim says the event, now in its fifth year, is always a great night out for a worthy cause.

“It’s a unique event in Darwin,” she says.

“We get some chefs together and they organise a really awesome menu and they demonstrate the dish on stage and the patrons are served that for dinner.

“It’s great for all the would-be  gourmet and would-be chefs who want to learn the tricks of the trade.”

Variety NT raises funds for kids in need throughout the Territory.

“Our mission is to empower NT  children if they’re sick, disadvantaged or have special needs,” Fong Lim says.

“Our whole mantra is let kids be kids and live, laugh and learn.”

This year Variety NT is raising cash for all their usual causes, including grants for families in need and organisations helping kids. But Fong Lim says the organisation is also hoping to raise enough cash for an inclusive play space for children  of all abilities.
