Which Picnic to Pick?

August is here, the sun is shining and the weather’s spot on for picnicking. We can’t think of a better way to spend Picnic Day long weekend. But where can you get a good picnic in the Top End? Here are three of our tried and tested hot tips!

Mamma’s Kitchen at Mindil

Mother-of-three and passionate foodie Bree has been serving up delicious Italian delights at local markets and community events since 2017.

These days, you’ll also find picnic platter boxes on the Mamma’s Kitchen menu – not just for the markets, but made-to-order. And the price includes delivery, depending on your location.

Each picnic platter box comes stocked with a selection of cheeses, homemade dips, nuts, crackers, fresh fruit, chargrilled vegetables, cured meats and more. Platters are equipped with environmentally friendly packaging and utensils ready for immediate consumption – we dare you to try and hold back…

Pony + Sid

Eliza and her team have you covered for delicious morsels, made-from-scratch in Pony + Sid’s purpose-built Winnellie kitchen.

Slow-roasted tomatoes with Persian feta basil and toasted almonds, caramelised onion pork sausage rolls with house chutney, and savoury slice with spinach, olive and feta are just some of the picnic options up for selection.

You can also grab an antipasto box, with a selection of quality cheeses, cured meats, house olives and mustard figs, dried and fresh fruit with crackers and a fresh baguette.
Did we mention they bake cakes? Yup. Get in touch to order your fill of macadamia brownies, humming-bird cake and Italian ricotta cake with chocolate and pistachio. Yum. Just, yum.

Besser Brew Bar

Lisa's crew at Besser have come up with the [baked] goods, offering an array of grazing boards to keep those hunger pangs at bay.

In addition to the regular suspects – such as cheese, crackers and cured meats – catering boxes with tartlets, croutes and sandwiches can also be arranged.

Think chicken, Brie, fennel, green leaves and aioli sandwiches on crusty fresh-baked bread, apple and spiced chai muffins, and confit beetroot with goats’ cheese, walnuts and vanilla balsamic. With sweet and savoury treats to delight the fussiest of eaters, this is a must-add to your Top End picnic bucket list.
