Get Eggcited for Easter

IT’S THIS TIME of year that a trip to the shops might accidentally land a bag of hot cross buns in your trolley, ready for a good toasting and generous smothering of butter.

It’s also time for the camping gear to get pulled out of storage, aired out, ready for the first camp of the season. That’s right, folks, it’s Easter time!

But before you scoot to the big supermarket chains for your chocky Easter eggs, why not give a little local biz a try?

The bunnies and bilbies at Charlotte’s Web Darwin Chocolate Factory have hopped to it, crafting sweet treats for you and your family to sink your toothy pegs into this Easter.

We’re talking mousse-filled chocolate eggs in milk, white and dark chocolate, and nougat nugget eggs and creamy bunnies. Mm-mm. They’ve got their vegan friends covered, too, with chocolates, eggs and bunnies on the menu. Sweet!

Darwin Chocolate Factory started out making chocolates back in 2009 for the local Christmas markets, earning themselves a loyal legion of followers. They opened the doors to the first chocolate factory in Darwin in 2018 after a big life-changing event.

“In 2017, we lost everything on our block to a fire – our house, our tourism business, all of our possessions. At that stage, we were looking for a change,” says owner Kirsty McInnes.

“So, in 2018, we moved our engineering business upstairs [at the warehouse] and started the chocolate factory downstairs, initially as a wholesaler. With the pandemic, we pivoted our business to include chocolate experiences, with tours, workshops and parties.”

So this year, instead of opting big brand names with flashy packaging, hop along to see the eggsellent folks at Charlotte’s Web.
