What was the first concert you ever went to?

I think the first concert I ever attended was of the great Haja Bebe, a legendary artist from Niger who I later had the honour of playing with. It was in my hometown of Agadez. I was probably about eight years old. I went with my cousins who were older than me.

What’s your favourite album of all time?

Probably my favorite album of all time is Tinariwen's Amassakoul. This album had a very big influence on me as I was creating my own sound as a musician.

Finish this sentence: my friends would describe me as ...

Timid, but someone who likes to joke around.

Whose posters did you have stuck to the wall when you were a teenager?

I did not have posters on my wall as a teenager. In fact, for many of my teenage years, I did not have a wall that was mine, as I was a refugee in Algeria, forced to move around a lot. When I returned to Niger, having posters on my wall was not something that my family could consider. We were too poor.

How would you describe your sound in three words?

African blues-rock.
