Far from Folson

Darwin born musician Tex Perkins brings to life the music of the late and great Johnny Cash. Joined by the Tennessee Four and Rachel Tidd in the very apt setting of the Fannie Bay Goal, this tour is a throwback to Cash’s iconic performance in the Folsom Prison in 1968. Playing some of his favourite Cash songs, Perkins embraces his reverence for Cash’s career in a fast-paced and authentic rock-n-roll journey.

Perkins himself has had an expansive and interesting career. After beginning in Brisbane with country-punk group Tex Deadly and the Dum-Dums over 30 years ago, the widely known singer-songwriter went on to front the popular 90s band The Cruel Sea after which he formed and played with idiosyncratic bands such as Thug, Tex Perkins and His Ladyboyz and pub rock supergroup The Beasts of Bourbon. Tidd, an acclaimed performer in her own right, fills the role of Cash’s wife and musical collaborator June Carter Cash.

After this first gig in Darwin, the Far From Folsom tour will take Perkins and the band to decommissioned goals and historic sites across the country, honouring Cash’s iconic place in musical history.
