The Fast Five - Emily Wurramara

To say it’s been a busy few years for Groote Eylandt’s Emily Wurramara would be an understatment.

Her breakout debut EP Black Smoke was released in 2016, she hit the National Indigenous Music Awards’ stage in 2017, welcomed her daughter on Boxing Day, and has been recording her highly anticipated debut album with award wining producer David Bridie. She answered The Fast Five for Off The Leash.

What’s the first album you ever bought?
Beyoncé’s Dangerously in Love on CD. I got it for my ninth birthday and I had it on repeat for ages. Beyoncé is such a legend.

If you could see any artist or band – living or dead – this weekend, who would it be?
I would have loved to have seen TLC – they are my all time favourite. So much strength, power and love.

Whose posters did you have stuck to the wall as a teenager?
In high school I had Eddie Murphy, Beyoncé, Aretha Franklin, Snoop Dogg and, of course, BOB MARLEY!

What song would you like played at your funeral?
‘Neon Moon’ by Brooks & Dunne.

Finish this sentence. The thing people would be surprised to know about me... is that I love chemistry and would have been a chemistry teacher.
