DSO Opera Gala

Every May, the Darwin Symphony Orchestra welcomes the dry with a spectacular free opera gala under the stars at the Darwin Waterfront.

As one of the first large-scale Dry season outdoor concerts, the Opera Gala is a celebration of the change of seasons, and showcases Darwin’s incredible local talent from both the Darwin Symphony Orchestra (DSO) and the Darwin Chorale, alongside renowned guest artists, exploring the most beloved highlights from opera and musical theatre.

DSO General Manager Kate Stevens encourages anyone who hasn’t yet experienced the world class skill of Darwin’s own orchestra, to make this the time to do it.

“The Gala is an opportunity to see highly-skilled local musicians sharing the stage with renowned guest artists from around Australia.

“There is something for everyone in this programme. From favourite Italian opera classics by Verdi and Donizetti, to popular numbers from Lloyd Webber’s Phantom of the Opera. The music in the Opera Gala caters to all tastes.”

The DSO relishes the opportunity to play beautiful music outdoors. Set against the magnificent Waterfront backdrop, this is a night for locals and Dry season visitors alike to relax under the stars, enjoy a picnic and the finale fireworks while surrounded by spectacular orchestral music.
