Spread the Christmas Cheer

If you’re a young performer itching to spread some holiday cheer the City of  Darwin wants to hear from you.

Expressions of interest are now open for paid performance oppor-tunities for musicians in the lead up to Christmas at events around the city.

Community events producer Kylie Salisbury says she’s looking for soloists and duos to fill one to two hour slots at multiple festive events from December 1 – 24.

“I’m looking for performers to sing Christmas songs – they don’t have to stick to the traditional. I’m really happy to accept modern Christmas songs, too” she says.

“It’s a great chance for young emerging performers to get a few gigs.”

The big man himself, Santa, says the performers are a huge part of creating the Christmas spirit in Darwin.

“It’s a tough time of year here and the performers share the Christmas spirit,” he says.

“People still respond positively to the traditional carols and for all the visitors they’re just blown away to see how Christmas is done in Darwin.

“It creates really nice memories and shares a bit of Christmas cheer among the traders, too.”

The Christmas festivities begin on November 30 when the Christmas tree is illuminated at a special Christmas edition of the Boutique Markets in the Mall.

Musicians can contact Salisbury to register their interest with a short bio.
