Arafura Games Opening and Closing Celebrations

Music fans are in for a treat when the Arafura Games returns with a huge line-up of entertainment for the opening and closing celebrations.

To kick off the event, hip-hop powerhouse Baker Boy will be joined by local favourites Shellie Morris and Leah Flanagan for the opening on  Friday April 26.

The closing ceremony will see Morris and Flanagan return to the stage, joined by Stevie Jean and Skinnyfish Sound System who are sure to get the crowds pumping on Saturday May 4.

The return of the Arafura Games after a hiatus means an injection of sport, arts and culture in Darwin. The Games themselves also have a long-lasting impact on the wider community.

Artistic director Ben Graetz says he still holds strong memories from his youth, and is excited to have the opportunity to help the next generation be inspired.

“The Arafura Games were such an incredible memory to me growing up and being a part of it,” he says.

“I know that’s the same with so many of my friends and family, and you can only create those feelings of togetherness and community through events like this.

“You can’t quantify that - that is something that is really immeasurable but long lasting.”
