The Fast Five - Deborah Conway

Debroah Conway and Willy Zygier head to Darwin on their Epic Tour, after the release of their 10th album, The Words Of Men. The concert will see their new music paired with the classic 1993’s ARIA award-winning, gold-selling record, Bitch Epic.

Debroah Conway answered The Fast Five

What’s the first album you ever bought?
It was 1971 and I had walked down to our local record store clutching my money and bought my first LP, Carole King’s Tapestry. I do have the album but now on CD.

If you could see any artist or band – living or dead – this weekend, who would it be?
Louis Armstrong with Ella Fitzgerald & The Oscar Peterson Quartet, the very essence of what it is to beinside your craft and to communicate it so perfectly. I’d take my daughter Alma Zygier (a glorious jazz singer) and we’d smile all night at the dazzling musicianship and mourn not to be able to repeat the experience.

Whose posters did you have stuck to the wall as a teenager?
The only two I remember were a giant headshot of Paul Newman looking quite devastatingly handsome and a small A4 size poster that read ‘prune juice will set you free’. I no longer have either of them.

What song would you like played at your funeral?
A traditional Jewish funeral doesn’t incorporate music but if it did I’d choose ‘Moon River’.

Finish this sentence. The thing people would be surprised to know about me… is not just a thing, but a very long list. After all, how well can you know a person? Perhaps a little better if that person is creative and writes and releases albums.
