Joseph and James Tawadros

LONDON-BASED OUD VIRTUOSO and triple ARIA Award winner, Joseph Tawadros AM, and his percussionist brother, James, bring to Darwin their unique style of jazz music.

The oud is a Middle Eastern lute – a short-neck, pear-shaped stringed instrument – and Joseph is renowned worldwide for his ability to play it. His brother James is percussionist virtuoso, playing the riq (small tambourine) and the bendir (frame drum), also with incredible skill.

Joseph’s ability to bring traditional Middle Eastern music together with classical and jazz, has earned him the admiration of his peers and music critics, who consider him to be a truly original contemporary performer and an innovative composer.

Joseph has collaborated with international jazz royalty, including US jazz legends John Abercrombie, Christian McBride and Jack DeJohnette. He has performed with world music practitioners including Sarangi Master Sultan Khan, Afro Moses and the Gypsy Kings.

Don’t miss your chance to enjoy the sounds of these incredibly talented brothers as they take to the Top End stage for one magical night of music.
