Landscapes

The fascination with Australian landscapes is a common thread in the work of Australian composers, their music evoking a sense of place and space with the ability to connect the physical with spiritual.

So what better way to take in our own gorgeous Top End landscape than by the Arufura Sea, set to the live soundtrack of some of Australia’s most renowned composers?

Darwin’s own Arufura Music Collective present Landscapes – The Music of Australian Composers, to celebrate AusMusic Month and the United Nation’s International Year of Indigenous Languages. Ticket holders are treated to a special afternoon of beautiful chamber music paired with fine wine and food at PeeWee’s at the Point.

The Arafura Collective was formed over 20 years ago by a group of Darwin friends with a shared a passion for music and a joy of playing in a small ensemble. These days – with decades of experience under its belt including collaborations with Tracks Dance, Darwin School of Ballet and a range of Aboriginal rock bands – the Collective continues to produce high quality work by Darwin-based professional chamber musicians.

The Collective has chosen very diverse and stunning works for the occasion. Be inspired and moved by ‘Port Essington’ by Peter Sculthorpe, ‘Love and Dreaming’ by collaborators Netanela Mizrahi and Guwanbal Gurruwiwi, inspiring new works by Francis Diatschenko and Cathy Applegate, and the bold and innovative ‘Echoes and Lines’ by Lachlan Skipworth.

Kick back and relax with a gorgeous afternoon of music as you take in the sights, tastes and sounds of the Top End.
