Bedroom Farce

Four couples, three bedrooms, one night and a hilarious evening of theatre where nobody gets any sex and hardly anybody gets any sleep.

This is British playwright Alan Ayckbourn’s comedy masterpiece, a home-hitting lifting of the lid on the secret stresses and strains of seemingly happy middle class marriages.

Trevor and Susannah’s marriage is on the rocks, the itinerant couple exposing the delicate ssures of marriage through their selfish, high-energy antics. For ageing Ernest and Delia the most exciting thing they do in bed is eat pilchards. The business-driven Nick and Jan have settled for second best. Malcolm and Kate, who seem the best adjusted, discover he stashes porn in the sock drawer.

As avant-garde playwright Samuel Beckett once wrote, "alone together, so much shared.”

Tania Lieman, Creative Producer for CemeNTworx Community Theatre says audiences are assured a high-octane night of laughs with this evergreen hit for contemporary theatre companies worldwide.

“It’s a play that lets people vicariously enjoy a heap of relationship foibles, that really, we all get up to and can recognise.”

“They see that all play out to a great resolution, with really fun characters.”
